A Word On Comfort Food: Vegan Chik-n Burger with Hippeas
We LOVE comfort food!
Food is more than just nutrition.
Food should be pleasurable.
Food should be comforting.
Food is social.
We do not food shame as part of our Get Healthy With Dr. Adame Program. In fact, we encourage that about 3-4 meals per week should be “comfort food”. These should be meals savored without thought to nutritional value. We encourage clients to find joy in these meals. And of course, the goal is that eventually the nutrient-dense, healthy meals become such an ingrained part of their lives, that those become their comfort foods.
This is one of Dr. Adame’s favorite comfort food meals:
Ingredients:
Vegan Burger Bread (most burger bread out there is “accidentally” vegan)
One Alpha Chik Patty (we buy them in bulk at Costco)
Half an avocado
Fresh tomatoes (the ones in the photo are Sun Sugars from our garden)
Lime juice (we are Mexican, we put lime juice on everything!)
Chopped fresh pepper (we used a serrano from our garden)
Hippeas (we get them at Costco)
Instructions: Heat the patty on a non-stick pan, about 4-5 minutes on each side until its fully heated. Assemble the burger with the avocado mashed on each side of the bread, add the chopped serrano pepper and tomato slices. Flavor with salt, ground pepper, and lime juice. Serve with a side of Hippeas and a piece of fresh fruit.
Quick, comforting, and easy meal!
