Happy National Breastfeeding Month

#Breastfeeding Is Natural

World Breastfeeding week just ended, and August is National Breastfeeding month in the United States. The benefits of breastfeeding for the baby, mother, family, and society are plenty and well-documented. At Culver Pediatrics, with our Newborn Cocoon Program, we support families' breastfeeding journeys.

Unfortunately, through unethical marketing strategies such as free samples and subtle advertising in hospitals and physician clinics, formula companies build relationships and trust with families to change their decisions on how to feed their babies. They undermine family choices. After all, formula companies are trying to sell an inferior, costly product when the alternative is a free, superior product (breastmilk).

While breastfeeding is the natural way to feed babies, it is sometimes challening. Many of the breastfeeding challenges are due to barriers set up by a non-breastfeeding friendly society. Most of the time, breastfeeding issues can be solved with the support of a person knowledgeable in lactation. For me, that person was my own mother, who breastfed four children.

Not everyone is as fortunate as I was in my breastfeeding journey. Culver Peds is here to deliver that support to families who enroll in our Newborn Cocoon Program.

We aim to be the best pediatric practice in Marshall County, Lake Maxinkuckee area, and the state of Indiana. If your child is not yet part of the Culver Pediatrics family, sign up in the email opt-in below to learn more about our boutique pediatrician services.
