Holistic and Personalized Skin Care Management Approach

At Culver Peds, we understand there is a gap for Acne Management locally. We offer comprehensive acne care for teens and young adults. We follow a 5 prong, evidence-based and holistic approach for acne management:

1) Whole-Foods, Plant-Based Nutrition. We firmly believe that acne is affected by nutrition. We offer nutritional counseling, focusing on a healthy, unprocessed, plant-based diet as part of the treatment of acne.

2) Personalized Product Recommendations. We do not sell products. We review the products that the teen is already using and determine if those are right for them. If we think a different product would result in a better outcome, we recommend a gentle, plant-based product depending on their needs and budget. We do not have any financial relationship with any product we recommend.

3) Behavioral interventions. Sometimes simple measures such as reducing daily washings, timing of facial washings, stress reduction, sun exposure, exercise, and avoiding hair on the face can impact acne severity. We discuss these behavioral interventions with all our teens and their family.

4) Outcome-focused. We closely follow the teen’s psychological and perceived outcome during the treatment course. Our primary goal is to ensure that the patient is happy with the outcome.

5) Medical management. When indicated, Dr. Adame will prescribe medications following evidence-based protocols, ranging from topicals, to oral antibiotics, to isotretinoin (Accutane). Dr. Adame is an iPledge attested physician and follows strict protocols when prescribing isotretinoin.
