What are your recommendations for Vitamin D supplementation in babies?

When I was a pediatric hospitalist, I took care of newborns who were admitted to the hospital for hypocalcemic seizures. While these babies had an excellent prognosis, I found it devastating that the family had to have a newborn in the hospital who underwent extensive work ups including a CT scan and a lumbar puncture for a condition that is so easily preventable with daily vitamin D supplementation. I have witnessed primary care fail, so when I transitioned from hospital to primary care pediatrics, I was determined to ensure this would never happen to my babies.
