Eat Local. Eat Plant-Based Series: Frida’s in Culver

Almost every Sunday at lunch, you will find Chris and I at Frida’s in Culver.

As part of the Get Healthy With Dr. Adame Program, I will share my regular plant-based orders at local restaurants. Frida’s is a great place to start because we eat here at least once per week and it is one of the more affordable, family-friendly restaurants in town.

With most Mexican restaurants, I find it easier to order from the a la carte menu, to avoid “hidden” or surprise non-plant-based ingredients like crema, cheese, chicken bouillion, or other animal products.

When we go to Frida’s my typical order, that Graciela our usual server already knows by heart, is all from the a la carte menu:

  • Beans with no cheese (you have to ask no cheese, it comes with cheese by default)

  • Side of avocado (specify avocado, not guacamole, which sometimes is refreshed with dairy)

  • Order of corn tortillas

  • Jalapenos y Cebolla Toreadas (it’s off menu, but they will know what you mean)

I make tacos out of all the ingredients which I flavor with salt, pepper, and limes (I steal the ones that come with Chris’s tacos).

We ask the server not to bring us chips and salsa to avoid the excess empty calories. Sometimes I ask for green salsa, but I tend to forget because this meal is delicious enough as is.

I order water with no ice to drink.

Beans, Avocado, Corn Tortillas, Jalapenos/Onions “Toreadas”, limes
