IVIG: Making Infusion Days Joyful Experiences
IVIG: Making Infusion Days Positive Experiences
At Culver Pediatrics Center, one of the cornerstone treatments for children affected by PANDAS/PANS is Intravenous Immunoglobulin G (IVIG), which is in infusion given over two days either at a hospital-based or free-standing infusion center. IVIG can also be given at home with a reputable home health agency. The location is often determined by your insurance company.
IVIG therapy can be a frightening experience for children because it does require IV insertion. We recommend the following steps to make infusion days less scary and maybe even a little joyful.

Please discuss IVIG preparation and report any side effects to your child's physician.
Reassure the child: Receiving IVIG can be stressful, so help the child understand the procedure in an age-appropriate way and explain that the process is designed to help them feel better.
