FAQ: Why Don’t You Offer One-Time Visits?

We get so many requests on a weekly, sometimes daily basis, to see a child for a one time visit. Usually the request is for an acute, after-hours issue such as a fever, and the family wants to avoid a visit to the emergency room or urgent care. Sometimes the request is for a second opinion on a diagnostic dilemma or long-term chronic issue. Though we would sincerely love to help everyone, we have made the decision not to offer one-time visits to non-enrolled patients. We have several reasons for this:

1) We do not want to become an urgent care, as that model is diametrically opposed to our mission to build long-term, trusting relationships with families.

2) One of the reasons Dr. Adame left corporate medicine was to deliver personalized, unfragmented, exceptional care that met her high standards. One time visits do not give her the opportunity to get to know the patient’s history well enough to make the most informed decisions regarding care or allow for meticulous follow up.

3) Our concierge practice model is predicated on keeping a small practice size so our physician, Dr. Adame, can be available for urgent, acute, same-day visits for our enrolled patients. If we fill her schedule with one-time visits, her availability to our enrolled patients would be diluted and jeopardized.

4) Culver Pediatrics Center is a tiny, family-run, home-based business. Dr. Adame is the only physician on staff. In order to maintain a healthy work-life balance, we limit her availability, especially after hours, to families who have already made a commitment to join the Culver Pediatrics Center family.

We encourage families to join the Culver Pediatrics Center family before their children get sick or injured, to ensure access to Dr. Adame at a time of need.
